Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease - Mandy Ho

What causes it? How is it transmitted?
It is mostly cause by Cigarette, pipes, tobacco smoking but air pollution, chemical fumes and dust, breathing in secondhand smoke often cause this deadly disease too. There is one rare case that alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency may also cause this diseases. It is often sexually transmitted.

What are the symptoms? How long do they it last? Is it deadly?
The patients often have an ongoing cough, shortness of breath, wheezing(when you breathe there is a tiny whistle),chest tightness, finger nails turn very blue since you have lack of oxygen. It will often get worser and worser and that person will die eventually.

Can it be cured? If so, how? If not, is there any way that we can at least treat it?
It can not be cured but the most important thing that help is quit smoking medicines, vaccines, pulmonary rehabilitation (rehab), oxygen therapy, and surgery. And it will help you by relieving your symptoms, slowing the progress of the disease, improving your exercise tolerance and improving your overall health.
