The Crohn’s Disease

Em, what is The Crohn’s Disease?! what does it do to us??

The Crohn's Disease, also known scientifically as "Granulomatous enteritis and Colitis", is a type of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) discovered by Dr. Burrill B. Crohn and his colleagues in 1932. IBD diseases are diseases or disorders that causes swelling in the intestines.

The Crohn’s Disease is a serious conditioned and ongoing disorder - It might even last for your entire life - that causes the inflammation of your digestive tract, also referred to as the gastrointestinal tract. The crohn’s disease can affect any area of the tract from the mouth on to the rest, and most commonly it affects the Ileum; the lower part of the small intestine and the colon.

The disease can affect people at any age, but it is most often diagnosed in adults in their 20s and 30s. However, approximately 30% of people with Crohn's disease develop it's symptoms before they hit 20 years of age. In the U.S. , about 100,000 teenagers and preteens have the Crohn's disease.

The swelling extends pretty deep into the lining of the affected organ and the swelling can cause severe pain, the affected areas become red and inflamed, leading to bleeding and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in DIARRHEA.

It is not a disease that could be transmitted, it is luckily non-infectious (: phew!!

What causes The Crohn's Disease?!! ...HOWWWWW.

The causes of the Crohn's disease are still unknown, but it's been said that it is a combination of environmental factors, genetic factors and the abnormal response by the body's immune system, In hosts with Crohn's disease, researchers believe that the immune system mistakes microbes, -composed of various cells and proteins- as bacteria that is typically found in the intestines, for foreign or invading substances, and launches an attack and in the process, the body sends white blood cells into the lining of the intestines, where they cause chronic inflammation.

What are the symptoms? awhh OUCHH.
