What caused it?

There are 4 different types of diabetes with different causes:

Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
When the pancreas stop making insulin, which is a hormone that regulates blood sugar. This cause is genetically related. Other causes can be the loss of the pancreas due to pancreatic cancer or chronic pancreatitis.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
This is when there is problem in the pancreas productions of insulin and the ability of cells to utilize insulin. The main causes can include genetic and lifestyle issues.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus
This is caused by high blood sugar level during the pregnancy period.

Diabetes Insipidus
This is also called "Water" diabetes, it is not related to the sugar levels in the blood. This occurs as a result of problems in regulating the hormone vasopressin, which tells the kidneys how much to concentrate the urine.

What are the symtoms? How long do they last? Is it deadly?

These are the symtoms:
  • excessive thirst
  • excessive hunger
  • frequent urination
  • poor sleep
  • poor circulation
  • sudden weight loss
  • blurred vision
  • numbness in the hands and feet
  • slow healing of wounds
  • recurrent of yeast infections in women
  • dry or itchy skin
  • more infections than usual
This symtoms can also be related to other illnesses, but it can be tested for diabetes easily. This can be prevented and cured if diagnosed at early stages.

Can it be cured? If so, how? If not, is there any way that we can at least treat it?

Type 1 Diabetes cannot be cured but can be treated through regular injections of insulin. Other treatments can be the injection of patient or donor islets of Langerhans to replicate the pancreas function.

Type 2 Diabetes can be cured by eliminating hydrogenated oils and trans-fats from the diet. The diet must be controlled and replaced with natural oils such as flaxseed, olive oil, real butter, lard, any organic animal or plant fats, coconut oil, etc. It can also be treated by medication to stimulate the production of insulin.

Treatment for Gestational Diabetes Mellitus includes insulin and other medications. But the symtoms will reduce usually after the end of pregnancy.

Diabetes Insipidus can be treated by drinking enough fluid, as well as medication.
