What is Cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a type of lipid which contains many fat compounds from the body. Cholesterol and another type of lipid called triglyceride, are important in the structure of cells. They can also be used to make hormones and producing energy.
Your level of cholesterol usually depends on how your liver makes cholesterol which goes into your blood.

What is High Cholesterol?
High cholesterol is basically having to much cholesterol. It can be measured by taking a blood test and measure the cholesterol in the blood.
There are actually two types of cholesterol, the high and low density cholesterol. low density cholesterol is harmful to our bodies.

What can cause High Cholesterol?
Old persons can get high cholesterol easily because their veins are already hardened. High cholesterol can be transfered through birth. Can also be effected by the country you live in - there are many more europeans that have high cholesterol, a lot higher than in asia. Another main reason we have high cholesterol is because of what we eat. Too much meat, dairy products, bread and cakes can raise the level of cholesterol. Finally, people that smoke, overweight, have alcohol abuse, kidney diseases and a lack of nutrition may have high cholesterol too.

If you have the symptoms of cardiovascular disease or atherosclerosis, there is a chance you have high cholesterol too. These are;
If your legs hurts while doing exercise, it means arteries of the legs have narrowed with a less blood supply.
In the heart, narrowed arteries causes angina. May lead to heart attack or lowered heart function.

Well, don’t eat too much meat, bread, or dairy products.

  • Doing a lot of exercise - reduce body weight
  • Eat more vegetables, fruits, oats and healthy foods etc...
  • Try not to eat foods with saturated fats
  • Sleep at least 8 hours at night
  • Don’t smoke and don’t drink alcohol
  • Medications such as medicines like Aspirin, Satins, Vitamins.
