Stroke-By Kevin Ho

What is Stroke and what causes it?

The scientific name for Stroke is Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA for short). CVA makes the brain malfunctions suddenly due to the lack of blood flow caused by the blockage such as thrombosis, arterial embolsim or leakage of blood [1]. After stroking, some areas of the brain may be damaged and unable to function the corresponding organs of the body properly. The patients are often found unable to understand speech and express an idea, losing one side of a visual field, nor moving one side of hands & legs and etc[2].

Can stroke be transmitted from person to person?

No, Stroke can’t transmit outside a hanuman body from person to person. It is not like virus and bacteria that can be propagated by external means. As I mentioned above, Stroke is caused by the internal blood blockage. To reduce the probability of getting Stroke, we could do as follows: [3]:
1) to maintain healthy body by doing more exercise,
2) to avoid eating saturated fats found in meat, butter and beef shortening,
3) to test the blood pressure more regularly ,
4) to relax and reduce stress,
5) to stop smoking,
6) to take less drug and alcohols.

What are the symptoms? How long do they last? Is it deadly?

The stroking starts suddenly and may be last over seconds to minutes. The symptoms of the stroke are depended on the affected area of the brain, but the wider area is affected, the more difficult would be recover. The typical symptoms include a sudden onset of any of the following [4]:

1)Weakness of the face, arm, and/or leg on one side of body
2)Numbness in the face, arm, and/or leg one side of body
3)Inability to understand spoken language
4)Inability to speak
5)Inability to write
6)Vertigo and/or gait imbalance
7)Double vision

So is stroke deadly? Yes, indeed, if the damaged brain stops the critical organs like lungs and heart working.

Can it be cured? If so, how? If not, is there any way that we can at least treat it?

At present, Stroke can’t be stopped by the-state-of-the-art medical science and technology.. The patients of Stock can take thrombolysis, a clot buster to reduce the degree of suffer [2]. Stroke rehabilitation provides the trainings to normal part of the brain of the patients taking over the controls of damaged area of the brain, to operate the lost functions of the body after the stroke. Unfortunately, the damaged part of the brain will not be cured back to normal at all.
