It's an infectious disease caused by varicella zoster virus. It will be transmitted through person-to-person contact, for example: when a patient coughs, sneezes. It can also be transmitted by indirect proximity, touching anything that has been touched by someone who has the virus can cause a chicken pox infection.
What are the symptoms? How long do they last? Is it deadly?
First stage of the chicken pox:
- fever
- headache
- sore throat
(the rash should appear 1 or 2 days after the first symptoms begin.)
The rash should last for around 7-10 days and the incubation period is usually 14-16 days, that's when you get the symptoms of chicken pox after you've been around a patient.
Dont's
- Do not eat food that are dark, e.g. soy sauce, as they will cause dark scars.
- Do not eat certain types of food, for example: chicken, prawns, crabs, and other seafood as well.
- NEVER stretch the lesions, not only that it will leave scars & pigmentation but infection may take place, too
Can it be cured? If so, how? If not, is there any way that we can at least treat it?
You can't cure chicken pox, it will only disappears by itself, however, apply Calamine lotion and antihistamine medicines may help with the itching.
