Chronic kidney disease (CKD) occurs when one suffers from gradual and permanent loss of kidney function over time. Kidneys are no longer able to clean toxins and waste product from the blood. Although chronic kidney disease sometimes results from primary diseases of the kidneys themselves, the two major causes are diabetes and high blood pressure.
